Yimei Zhu
Brookhaven National Laboratory, USA
Yimei Zhu is a Distinguished Physicist and Group Leader at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), USA. He received his PhD from Nagoya University and joined BNL in 1988, becoming a tenured Senior Scientist in 2002. Throughout his career, he has pioneered the development and application of electron microscopy for magnetic phase imaging, advancing the field from quantitative in situ and operando characterization of spin configurations to probing the dynamics of topological magnetic textures and spin-wave phenomena. His broader research focuses on developing advanced electron microscopy instrumentation and methodologies to understand the interplay among charge, spin, orbital, and lattice degrees of freedom in quantum materials.
Zhu has authored more than 780 peer-reviewed publications and delivered over 350 invited presentations at international conferences. His honors include the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Microscopy Society of America (MSA), the Peter Duncumb Award from the Microanalysis Society (MAS), the Vernon Cosslett Medal from the International Federation of Societies for Microscopy (IFSM), and the 2026 Battelle Inventor of the Year Award. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), MSA, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Materials Research Society (MRS), and MAS.
