Qihang Liu

Southern University of Science and Technology, China

Semi-Plenary Speaker

Professor Qihang Liu is currently a tenured professor at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen, China. He obtained his bachelor's and Ph.D. degrees from the School of Physics, Peking University. After graduation, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Northwestern University and as a research associate at the University of Colorado Boulder. Prof. Liu is engaged in computational condensed matter physics. The recent achievements include the development of spin space group theory for describing the symmetry of magnetic materials, including the classification and representation theories, and their applications to novel spintronic and topological physics, opening up a new research frontier on ”unconventional magnets” distinct from traditional ferromagnets and antiferromagnets.  He has published 100 SCI papers (11 ESI highly cited or hot papers) with over 11000 citations (according to Google Scholar) and an H-index of 51. Since joining SUSTech in April 2018, he has published as a corresponding author 3 Nature (including two theoretical sole-corresponding-author papers), 1 Nat. Phys., 6 Nat. Commun., 16 PRL/PRX, etc. From 2021 to 2025, he has been consecutively selected as a top 2% global scientist by Stanford University. Since 2024, he has served as an editor at npjQuantum Materials.
